Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has been at the centre of a storm for a long time now. Now his long-time friend Subhash Singh has now jumped to defend him, calling the ongoing controversy involving Pawan’s second wife, Jyoti Singh, a “political conspiracy”.
But while Subhash insists that politics is behind the renewed attention on the actor, the disturbing claims made by Jyoti Singh continue to raise serious questions about Pawan’s personal conduct and treatment of women.

A friend speaks, and defends
In a video that quickly spread across social media, Subhash Singh, who claims to share a decades-long family bond with Pawan Singh, said he was “hurt” by the recent developments. “In public life, political life, or family life, I’ve always prayed for his success,” he said, calling himself a loyal friend who only wants Pawan’s well-being.
According to Subhash, the entire issue between Pawan and Jyoti Singh is a private matter being played out in public for political gain. He said Jyoti’s case against Pawan, which involves maintenance and divorce proceedings in the Ballia court, has been twisted by “people who couldn’t compete with Pawan Singh in the Bhojpuri industry.”
Subhash alleged that some rivals have “used Jyoti as a weapon” to attack the star. “Those who couldn’t defeat Pawan through singing or acting are now firing from Jyoti Singh’s shoulder,” he claimed dramatically. He suggested that Pawan’s popularity had made him a target.
Subhash’s statements also tried to connect the controversy to Pawan’s short-lived political stint. Earlier this year, the Bhojpuri star was briefly fielded as a Lok Sabha candidate from Asansol, West Bengal, but had to withdraw after one of his songs drew criticism for being misogynistic and disrespectful toward women.
Subhash hinted that this latest controversy is part of a larger political effort to ruin Pawan’s image. He claimed that the timing of Jyoti Singh’s public appearance and social media statements, coming just after the Election Commission’s press briefings, was “no coincidence.”
“After so many months, suddenly you remember Pawan Singh, and that too exactly when the election process begins again?” Subhash asked, implying that Jyoti’s move was politically timed.
Subhash also appeared frustrated with how the issue has played out online. “When a legal case is going on in court, why talk about it on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube?” he said.
He criticised YouTubers and influencers who have covered Jyoti Singh’s story, claiming they were sensationalising a private family dispute. However, he offered no explanation for the repeated public controversies that have surrounded Pawan Singh in recent years. This ranges from offensive songs to allegations of violence.
A pattern of controversy
While Subhash Singh has come forward to defend his friend, this is far from Pawan Singh’s first brush with scandal. The Bhojpuri superstar has been repeatedly accused of promoting vulgar content, normalising toxic masculinity, and showing disrespect toward women in his music videos and lyrics.
Jyoti Singh, his second wife, has publicly accused him of harassment, infidelity, and mental torture. She claims he abandoned her without communication and filed an FIR against her instead. Videos showed her crying outside his Lucknow residence, pleading for justice and accusing him of neglect and cruelty.
Despite these grave allegations, many of Pawan Singh’s supporters have tried to paint him as a victim of politics. But critics say this defence only adds to a long history of how powerful men in the entertainment industry deflect blame. This often comes at the cost of women’s dignity.
Subhash Singh repeatedly described Pawan as a “self-made man” who rose from poverty through hard work and talent. “He started singing at six years old. Whatever he has achieved is because of his struggle,” he said. He went on to describe the Bhojpuri actor as a human being “with pain” and “emotions.”
But while he defended Pawan’s right to be hurt, he didn’t once acknowledge Jyoti Singh’s pain or the seriousness of her claims.
In his emotional speech, Subhash seemed more concerned about Pawan’s “image” than the truth. “If an image built over 30 years is destroyed in one day, it’s painful,” he said. “If I were in his place, I’d also feel the same pain.”
His comments echoed a familiar pattern. Powerful men face allegations, their supporters rally to protect their reputation rather than address the allegations themselves.
During the 2024 elections, outrage over one of his Bhojpuri songs forced the BJP to drop him as a candidate. Civil groups, women’s organisations, and even party members had accused him of promoting hate and disrespecting women.
Despite that, Pawan retained his massive fan following, especially men. And his music videos continue to rake in millions of views.
Where does Jyoti Singh stand?
While Subhash’s defence of Pawan Singh has made headlines, Jyoti Singh’s side remains far more serious. Over the past year, she has spoken about the emotional trauma and neglect she faced in the marriage.
In several interviews and posts, Jyoti has said she was left alone despite being married. She has always claimed that Pawan not only ignored her but also filed false complaints to silence her.
